Hackers.

When the word hackers is said, most people, I assume, first think about criminals who are hunted down by the government after hacking into top secret files on a database.  Many hackers are arrested for stealing information through the internet.  yet, some hackers just hack into a database for the fun of it.

I use to think a hacker was a computer nerd who lived in there parents basements and never went outdoors. This was until a new student from Chile, who I became friends with, came to my highschool.  He showed me all the things he could hack into, just for fun.  He hacked into the school network through his cell phone. He could changed peoples grades, send mass emails, and upload all the locker codes throughout the school. Although he never did anything with this knowledge, he still knew had. he did it just for fun.

When thinking about questions to ask hackers, a few things come to mind. Should they be punished for “hacking” into a network even if they do not use or change any of the data? Are “hackers” influenced by greatly by past generations, and do current “hackers” believe they will influence future generations?

Of all the subcultures we have read about thus far, hackers are one of the most interesting to me.  You wouldnt really think that hackers as a subculture, at least I didnt, until reading this chapter of our book.
